crazy about color couture!

Happy July everybody!June was a busy month for our family, including me taking a road trip vacation to the East coast the last 2 weeks with my mom, aunt & cousin. I saw and did more than I ever expected on this trip and have SO many pictures to go through and decide what to print and put into an album. I will share some pictures with you here when I get a bit more organized with them!

The beginning of July also means it's time for the Papertrey Ink senior design team challenge. This month we are all putting together projects using Dawn's Color Couture line.

There are so many wonderful things about Color Couture, my most favorite being, of course, the color combinations that Dawn puts together. I have always admired Dawn's bold & bright color combinations - she just has a special knack for playing with color. Her color combinations help me work out of the box from my regular stand by combinations (I still worked a bit of kraft into my projects though...!)

I put together some birthday tags with a combinations of elements from Color Couture Volume 4, the May Color Couture download, and a few other Papertrey supplies. The base of the tag is made with the library card tag die - so quick and easy to die cut a pile of bases for tags and then I also die cut the patterned paper for the bottom part of the tag so that lining up the rounded corners was a snap.

I printed out the patterned papers on a matte photo paper that I got at Office Max - I just used the generic brand and it printed great with my HP printer.

One of the things that I did with the Color Couture elements is that I took the time to sit down and just cut out a bunch of elements at a time. I store them in a ziplock bag and they are ready to go when I am putting a project together. I use a little file (a basic tool always near by when I am working) to smooth out any rough edges that happen when I am cutting.

last day of the countdown!

Welcome to the last day of the Papertrey Ink June release countdown! It's been so much fun sharing my sneak peek projects with all of you.

I have a couple more projects to share and inspire you with today.

All of the new stamp sets and projects that I am sharing today will be available to purchase on the 15th (tomorrow!) at Papertrey Ink.

I used the Library Ledger mini book supplies to put together a birthday & anniversary calendar. I included pictures of all of the months below - click any picture to see it larger.

 

I stamped each page with the double line stamp (where I stamped the month on each card) and the library card background in Smokey Shadow. I used the Fresh Alphabet set for the months and numbers I needed for birthdays and anniversaries and also the months included in the Library Ledger set.

After I had each card set up with the months and dates (October is our family's busiest birthday & anniversary month!), I went through past Papertrey sets to find images for each month. I kept it simple, but you could definitely spend more time on detailed images for each page.

Now I can flip to the month and hang up the little book by the ring - maybe this will help me get better at sending out cards on time!

Here are a few more projects with the Night, Night Moon set:

I combined Fillable Frames #5 and Night, Night Moon for this card. After I die cut, stamped, and colored in the bottle image on the frame with Copics, I covered the whole piece with adhesive and then with glitter. You can use either your Xyron machine or a glue pen for your adhesive.

I stamped the background using one of the border images from the set. I love the sweet, sparkly look of this card!  

Next, I did up a tag for my nephew - this gives me an excuse to go shopping for him... I need a gift to attach his tag to! I used the Library Ledger page die for the tag base. I stamped the diaper pin background on white cardstock and then ran it through with the page die so that it would line up with the bottom of the tag perfectly.

I love the look of the Outline Alphabet stamped over the handwriting line image from Library Ledger - that look will be perfect for school scrapbooking pages.

Welcome to day 4 of the Papertrey Ink June release countdown. Today the whole design team is sharing projects made with the Friendship Jar and Friendship Jar Fillers. Mish collaborated with Nichole on designing these 2 sets and the end result is a set that is so Mish and is so much fun to stamp and assemble using the coordinating die cuts.

The images in this set are so sweet and homey they remind me of being with family and growing up. I made a sweet little mini book using my new Library Ledger set and die cut and incorporated quotes & sayings about family and home that are a part of other Papertrey sets. I love how this little book turned out and can see myself adding more pages and photos in the future.

Here's a look at my mini book and the card I made to go along with it. Doesn't just seeing all of the elements put together make you want to get the sets and start creating? I channeled Mish and made up some embellishments with circle punches and buttons to add a bit of rustic charm. There's Fillable Frames #5 with a sentiment from the Boards & Beams included as well!

I love this quote that I used that is also from the Boards & Beams set. Probably my very favorite part of the Friendship Jar set is the little label and coordinating die for the label on the jar. I used the label and die to stamp the year for each photo that I included in this mini book.

I love this quote from the Quilter's Sampler Sentiments set and created a border from blocks you can find in Quilter's Sampler and the additions sets. I used the library card background from the Library Ledger set on this page.

Here's the final page of the mini book - my photo progression is 1) a photo of my parents at their wedding, 2) a picture of me and my brothers, and 3) a family photo of us all together. I can see adding to the book with pictures from my own family: Chad & I, my girls, and then a family photo.

Welcome to day 3 of the Papertrey Ink June release countdown. How long are your shopping lists for the 15th? How long is your list of projects that you want to do? I always get inspired to work on so many projects when I see everything that the design team members come up with. I need more hours in my day or I need to be able to sleep less...!

Today I have a couple projects to share that use all of my new stamp sets.

One thing that I have been wanting to put together for a long time is a little book journal to keep track of the books that I have read in the year. What other perfect thing to make a book journal with than library styled cards? I used my Library Ledger set to make up the pages. 

I stamped the background in Dark Chocolate in onto Rustic Cream cardstock. I die cut and stamped the book title piece on Spring Moss Bitty Box Basics paper with the Fillable Frames #5 die and used elements from the Take Note set to finish off the look.

I can keep this little book right in my night stand drawer (I normally read in bed) so I can jot down books as I finish them. And now I can cross that off my "projects I want to complete" list!

Another project with the Night, Night Moon set...

A set of little cards, finished size 2 3/4" square, that are perfect for little gift enclosures. A little bundle of cards like this would be a cute gift in itself! I paper pieced the little diaper image with the Pretty Pastels patterned paper and then used a Copic marker to color the top of the diaper pin on each card.

I also added a bit of Crystal Effects (or you could use Glassy Glaze) so that the pin top is a little bit shiny and raised. Too cute!

Today, Nichole will be showcasing projects from Lisa's new Flutterby Friend set. Melissa will have more project peeks with her new set and Dawn is right on trend with her new Color Couture on her blog!

Hey everyone! Welcome to day 2 of the countdown for the Papertrey Ink June release. Today I am excited to share my new Library Ledger set. This set is a part of my mini book kit that includes the Library Ledger set (retails for $15), a new page die (retails for $20, and the Library Ledger patterned paper (retails for $8 & shown below). The mini book kit will retail for $40 - a savings of $3 versus buying everything separately.

I have a project to share with you today that uses some of the mini book kit supplies as well as my new sets: Night, Night Moon and Fillable Frames #5 that I introduced to you yesterday.

Here's a look at the patterned paper I designed for the mini kit. I am so excited about this ledger style paper collection. I always have a bunch ledger style scrapbook papers in my stash that to use in my scrapbooking projects and I had so much fun putting together my own style of ledger papers. My projects this countdown will not include the papers as they were not ready in time to send out to the design team. But, never fear! I know that the paper is ready for all of you to order and I know you will be seeing LOTS of examples in the days and weeks to come!

On to my project for today!

Many of you who follow me on Twitter, saw me mention my new nephew who was born this past weekend (11 pounds!) Our family is so excited to have this sweet little boy in our lives. I utilized all three of my new stamp sets to create this little mini book and card for my brother, sister in law, and new nephew.

Many of you will recall mini books that I have made in the past that have this sort of flashcard/library card format: last July I put together this sweet little book with the Everyday Button Bits set and this past December I made a Valentine mini book with my Simple Valentine set.

The page die for the Library Ledger mini book kit is a flashcard style page with the hole at the top center. Now instead of taking the time to cut, round corners, and punch the holes it is all done for you in one easy step. Everything lines and matches up - now crazy hole punched holes (I know you all know what I am talking about here!) Want to cover the card with patterned paper or another piece of cardstock? Run it through with the die cut and you are all set. The die is going to become one of your basic mini book making tools!

Here's a peek inside this little mini book for my nephew. The Library Ledger set has buildable background images designed to work with the new page die. You can see the library card style background (this is my favorite background in the set) on the kraft page above. The Inside & Out: Baby set works so well with Night, Night Moon and the sentiments are perfect for saying what I am thinking & wishing for this sweet little guy. There's a look at the moon and stars border that you saw in the set sneak peek earlier this week.

The little date embellishment on the opposite page uses the number 5 from the Fresh Alphabet set. The month and year stamps are included in the Library Ledger set.

On this next page I used the handwriting line image from the Library Ledger set along with another sentiment from the Inside & Out: Baby set. I can't wait to give this sweet little book to my nephew. It will be a keepsake to look back at and remember when he first arrived!

Welcome to day 1 of the Papertrey Ink June release countdown! Today I am excited to introduce 2 of the sets and the 2 dies that I designed for this month.

Night, Night Moon is a baby themed stamp set that includes whimsical images, borders, and words/sentiments that are perfect for creating welcome baby cards, announcements, and other baby themed paper crafting projects. The set retails for $24.

And of course, I know that so many of you are looking forward to seeing a peek of Fillable Frames #5! This set is a part of a series of 12 frame sets that will be introduced once a month. The frames have a great little feature to them: they are open in the middle which allows you to place the coordinating sentiments inside the frame how you want it and stamp the sentiment and frame at the same time. You can definitely use the frame and sentiments on their own as well and all of the sentiments will be able to be used with all of the frames coming out in the coming year. The set retails for only $5 and is a great way to build your collection of basic frames and sentiments to use on your projects. The coordinating die cut will retail for $5 and it opens up even more possibilities for your Fillable Frames #5 set!

My project today also utilizes the new page die that is a part of (or can be purchased seperately) the mini book kit that I am releasing this month.

Onto the project:

I used the new page die (more about that tomorrow!) to make this sweet little baby pocket card. I cut the die twice. The back layer is kraft cardstock, front layer is kraft cardstock brayered with Spring Rain ink and then stamped with the polka dots in white ink.

I trimmed the front layer down to the height if the pocket that I wanted and then used the new Fillable Frames #5 die to cut a window in it. I attached the pocket together with Zip Dry paper glue - make sure you do just a thin line right on the sides and bottom of the pocket. Love this glue, it dries fast and it super easy to clean off your project if you get a little goopy.

Next, I slid the piece of white cardstock into the pocket and then stamped the frame through the window, onto the cardstock. The image across the top of the card is one of the borders in the set - it also gives you an idea of some of the other images in the set that you will be seeing more of this week!

Do you love the little duck? He has a separate polka dot wing you can add - so so cute!
