Happy August everyone! Yesterday things wrapped up at the CHA super show and I am on my home to my family in Minnesota. Thank you to everyone who came out to see us at the Papertrey booth! It's also time for the senior Papertrey Ink design team challenge and before I left for Chicago this past week I created my project to share for the challenge.
This month we are revisiting an older (dare we say vintage?) Papertrey set: Spiral Bouquet. I have ideas and intentions when it comes to my older Papertrey sets. I want to spend time on creating projects, but with life and time being so busy, those sets often get neglected. It was so much fun to sit and play with this set and try out a few ideas that I had for it!
I pulled out my acrylic paint to stamp the flower from the set and also played with stamping my design right onto Everyday Blessings patterned paper.
To add a bit of a textured detail, I turned to an embroidery stitch - the french knot. When I first started doing embroidery, I was not friends with the french knot... but with taking time to practice, I got them down. First I threaded a length of the 1/8" silk ribbon onto my needle.
Once you have pulled your ribbon up where you want it on your design, wrap the ribbon around your needle about 3 times. Pay attention to how the needle is positioned, wrap out towards the point of the needle *this is the key*.
Once you have your ribbon wrapped, go back down the hole (or very close to) that you originally pulled the ribbon up through.
When you pull the ribbon all the way through, the knot will form.
When I am doing paper craft projects, instead of knotting the ribbon on the back, I secured my loose ends with tape. This keeps everything as flat as possible.
Here are my finished cards - I love the texture of the paint and ribbon french knots, as well as the button and felt trims.
Make sure that you stop by all of the other senior design team members blogs to see the projects they created with Spiral Bouquet - and then it's time to dust off your set (or another vintage Papertrey set) and get creating!
See you in not too long for the August release sneak peeks!
