holiday catch-up
transition and inspiration

one word

So if you frequent the blog world, you probably noticed that there are a lot of people choosing their word for the year. I am not sure where this all actually started - I saw the idea at Ali Edwards' blog and my mom saw it at Christine Kane's blog - however it started, it is such a cool concept.

My word last year was opportunity. I really loved having this word to focus on a reflect on through out the year and then looking back I can see the word working in small and big ways... with all members of my family.

January - A big one was becoming a design team member for Papertrey Ink. Even though it happened right away last year, this still is one of my biggest opportunities I was offered and took advantage of. Chad and I took the opportunity to spend time with friends and coworkers at holiday and new year parties. Hana had the opportunity to perform in her first dance show at a local high school. I had the opportunity to attend my first Medical Home learning session - I am a part of the team at my local clinic. I took the opportunity to spend the weekend with a good friend, just me and her stamping away. Our family and friends took the opportunity to raise money and race in the Stuck in Motion bike race for United Cerebral Palsy - it is a chance for us to honor our sweet Tacy and give something back to an organization that gives us SO much.

February - Our family took the opportunity to participate in the bowling program that UCP offered. I took the opportunity to talk to legislators (for the first time) on behalf of my family and all families who have children with special needs - our big focus was special education. My parents sold the home that I grew up in Ham Lake, MN and took the opportunity to live a dream of theirs and search for a lake home.

March - My parents found their lake home and moved in at the end of this month. We took the opportunity during Tacy's spring break to visit the Minnesota Zoo with friends. I took the opportunity to be a hostess for an online virtual stamping weekend with friends - it was so much fun to see what was created with the challenges I put out. Chad started classes to work on the opportunity of getting his Human Resources Professional certification. I took the opportunity to sell my girls outgrown clothes and toys at the local Mothers of Multiples sale (Brianna's girls are twins and she gives her friends the opportunity to sell under her) and I also bought new things for my girls! I took the opportunity to spend an overnight stamping with some of the members of my stamp club. Chad and I took the opportunity again to raise money and have an evening out at the Heat Wave event for UCP. Tacy's new bike arrived - an opportunity given to us by a special group of friends.

April - We took the opportunity to have Tacy participate in the Project ASTRIDE program again - she loves it and the benefits for her are awesome. We also took the opportunity to trial some medication for Tacy, which in the end didn't work out, but it was definitely worth a shot. I took the opportunity to meet Donna Downey and take a couple of workshops with her. Our family took the opportunity to attend Earth Day activities at the local college. I took the opportunity with a couple of other moms of special needs children to attend a weekend retreat. I had the opportunity to be thankful when my Dad had 5 stents put into his heart, that they caught things in time and that he is still here with us.

May - Tacy received her diagnosis of autism, which gives us new opportunities for her. I took the opportunity to get my first aid and CPR certification updated. Our family all took the opportunity to see Hana dance in her first dance recital. I took the opportunity to help my Brianna do a plant sale to raise money for Dystonia research. I took the opportunity to take a training to be a Pilot Parent though Arc.

June - I took the opportunity to attend another Medical Home learning session. Chad passed his Human Resources Professional certification test! Brianna and I took the opportunity of taking part in our first craft fair for Ink & Nickel and starting a venture that we both really love. Hana and Tacy both had opportunities to take swimming lessons. We took the opportunity to attend a wedding for one of Chad's cousins. We also took the opportunity of kicking back and enjoying the beginning of summer - especially at my parents new lake home!

July - We started the opportunity of genetic testing for Tacy (we still aren't done yet...) I took the opportunity to attend my first CHA (Craft and Hobby Association) show in Chicago (wow!) I took the opportunity to attend a baby shower for a very good friend of mine and got to be there for the phone call when her husband landed in the USA after being deployed to Iraq for almost 2 years. Brianna and I took the opportunity to set up an online shop for Ink & Nickel through Etsy.com.

August - We took the opportunity to spend a long weekend up at our family cabin in Duluth, MN. Hana got the opportunity to get orthotics for her flat feet. I took the opportunity to put on a weekend stamp retreat for a close group of friends. We took the opportunity to celebrate my Dad's birthday at his open house. Chad took the opportunity to attend a wedding for a close friend (I was unable to go because it was the same weekend as my stamping retreat.) Chad and I took the opportunity to attend the wedding of another friend in Chicago at the end of the month. We got the opportunity to meet Tacy's new teachers for first grade.

September - Brianna and I took the opportunity to go to Junk Market. Our family took the opportunity to spend a weekend up in Grand Marais, MN. I had the opportunity to sell at another Mothers of Multiples sale event.

October - I took the opportunity to go to Tacy's school on picture day. Brianna and I took the opportunity to do 2 sales this month for Ink & Nickel. Our family took the opportunity to attend a Halloween party put on by UCP. I took the opportunity to finally get my physical and get tests done to monitor for hereditary heart disease (everything looks good.) I took the opportunity to spend a day stamping with friends at a local scrapbook store. Chad and I took the opportunity to go to conferences with Tacy's teachers to get an update on how the school year was going.

November - I had the opportunity to celebrate my 10th anniversary (love you Chad.) Ink & Nickel had the opportunity to do more craft sale events and we also set up a booth at a local antique store (Antiques and... next to Grubers Quilt Shop in St. Cloud, MN.) Our family took the opportunity to get our flu shots. Chad and I took the opportunity to vote and try to pass the school levy (unfortunately, it didn't pass...) And I took the opportunity again to spend time stamping with some of my stamp club members.

December - Hana had another opportunity to perform in a dance show at a local high school (during a blizzard!) Ink & Nickel took the opportunity to do one more craft show for the year at the local college. I took the opportunity to spend the weekend with friends stamping, shopping, and having a great time. I took the opportunity to attend a legislative forum and hear Brianna tell her family's story to local representatives. Tacy and I had the opportunity to have a great appointment with her neurologist concerning everything that has been happening with her in the last year and our plans moving forward. Our family took the opportunity to spend Christmas with all of our family.

Of course throughout the year I took the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, work on my creativity, make new connections, and learn new things. It was quite a year looking back on everything.

I mentioned before, I have my word for this year. I am going to share that later - I think I rambled on enough for one day... and actually I don't think I have ever written this much in one post! Thanks for stopping by and taking the opportunity to let me share a part of me with all of you.
