holiday traditions
September 15, 2008
The whole Papertrey Ink design team worked on projects for this release that reflected personal holiday traditions.
Every year for my girls, I have some sort of a picture ornament of them. It's so much fun to look at all of them when we are decorating the Christmas tree. The girls also give them as gifts to grandparents. Most of the years I have actually just bought a frame ornament to put the pictures in, but last year and now this year the ornaments have been handmade.
I used Melissa's new Merry & Bright set to stamp the trees and then decorated them with some teeny rhinestones. I love how the name labels turned out using the Simple Alphabet set and an oval punch. Everything is put together with the Polka Dot sheer frames. I used the Crop-a-dile to punch the hole at the top so I could attach a ribbon for hanging.
The other little tradition that we have about decorating the tree is the girls have their own special Christmas boxes that contain their own ornaments, santa hats, and other special holiday decorations. My mom did this for my brothers and I growing up and when we moved away from home our boxes went with us so we could decorate our own trees. The other nice thing is that the girls know exactly which ornaments are theirs for hanging!
I had been wanting to label the boxes for the girls and this was a perfect opportunity. I die cut letters at a local craft store from the Pure Poppy paper and then stamped them with the Polka Dot Basicsset. Then I added another tree - although this time with out rhinestones and buttons so they don't accidentally get snagged when the boxes are being stored. I ran everything through my Xyron machine and that made it so easy to adhere it all to the box!
