beyond basic borders sneak peek 1
February 09, 2009
I am very excited to share a few peeks today for my set Beyond Basic Borders that will be released this month at Papertrey Ink on the 15th! There is a companion set that I will be sharing in the next few days (in fact you probably already saw a peek on Nichole's blog and didn't even know it...!)
I love details when it comes to stamping and borders are something that you are seeing not only in cardmaking, but in scrapbooking as well. You will definitely enjoy adding stamped border details to your projects, building backgrounds, and maybe even featuring a border as the main element on your card.
Let's start with a simple card using the curved vine border image included in the set...
I am going to use the border as the focal image of my card. I stamped it here in Ripe Avocado on white cardstock.
You've probably noticed that I have been favoring my scalloped edge punch on my projects lately and this stamp is a fun spin on that idea. I am stamping the scallop border image on the bottom and top edge of my cardstock. No punching, no bits of paper all over - just stamp and you are done. Don't get me wrong, I will still use my scallop edge punch, but now I have a quick and easy alternative at my fingertips!
I added the "thinking of you" sentiment and added some new Melon Berry vintage buttons along the curved vine. I stitch my buttons right to the cardstock using some linen thread (me and glue dots, we don't get along...)
I am adding a strip Melon Berry twill across the bottom of my card. I have been asked so many times about how I attach ribbons to cards and so I thought I would share here. All I do is run adhesive along the back of the ribbon, attach it to my card where I want it...
And trim off the excess even with the edge of the card.
Here is my finished card. I love the simple layout and look and I really love the Melon Berry paired with Spring Moss and Ripe Avocado - so fresh and springy!
Here's another card using the curved vine & reversed curved vine border images.
With these 2 stamps you can do a 2-step stamping technique. I stamped the reversed border first in Ripe Avocado...
And then stamped the curved vine image over the top in Spring Moss. Clear stamps make it so easy to line everything up.
When I cut my card base, I cut 1" from the end of the top panel. This is what I adhered the vine border to. The scallop border is stamped to peek out from under the border. I ended up trimming the excess kraft close to the scallop border. The flourish vine image stamped in Fresh Snow on the kraft is another image that is included in Beyond Basic Borders.
I stamped the "love you" sentiment in True Black and a piece of the flourish vine image in Ripe Avocado onto white cardstock. I punched this out with an oval punch, punched each end with a 1/8" circle punch, and threaded New Leaf bitty dot ribbon through the oval to attach it to the card. The oval piece also is adhered with dimensionals to keep it in place. I stitched on some New Leaf vintage buttons under the oval piece.
I love how this card turned out.
The little details of the two-toned vine border and the stamped scallop border really finish off this card perfectly.
And, last but not least...
If you have been to Nichole's blog, you might know there's a little contest going on again today over there. This is my ATC card and my signature is there - just tucked down on the bottom on the Dark Chocolate cardstock. Click the picture to see it a bit bigger and get a better look...
Because you know you want to win this...
Learn more about the contest and the new Handwritten Notes set at Nichole's blog, see more peeks of Dawn's and Melissa's sets at their blogs, and Lauren will be also sharing peeks of the new Handwritten Notes set and her new templates for this release all this week at her blog!
Remember that there's something exciting going on here tomorrow - you won't want to miss it! And, of course, more peeks of my new sets!
See you then!
