color & inspiration

I was invited by the sweet and adorable Melissa Phillips to take part in a color inspiration challenge with her. She sent over this photo from A Creative Mint (a blog I follow and love!), specifically from this post.

It was so much fun to start pulling colors and supplies out to see what I could come up with...

Purples aren't a color I usually pull to use regularly, so this is another great color for me to challenge myself with - like using black from this past weekend. And, even though you can't tell at first glance, I did use kraft cardstock - it's tucked behind the stamped vellum cardstock and I really like the muted background it created.

I was surprised to find that I had just the right purple glitter (although I do have a lot of glitter...!) To create the effect I made on the hearts, I used rock candy distress stickles to cover the punched shape, pressed it into the purple glitter, and then pressed it into the chunky clear glitter. You can't really see the stickles on the end result, it acts as the adhesive for the glitter you layer on top.  If you decide to try this technique, make sure you allow drying time before you assemble your card.

Thanks for inviting me to be a part of your challenge Melissa! Make sure you pop over to her blog to see who else played along today!
