papertrey ink sneak peek - through the trees

I am excited to share a sneak peek project today using the new Through the Trees stamp set that will be available for sale on the 15th at Papertrey Ink! This is such an elegant tree themed set that will great for so many occasions. It's a great change of pace when you want to have a more masculine/non-floral theme.

One of the trees is a larger version/style of a tree from the Father Knows Best - one of my favorite images from Papertrey. I decided to use this tree for my project that I am sharing today - a set of sympathy cards to have on hand (unfortunately it's a theme of card that we all need to have on hand, you just never know when you are going to need one...)

I pulled out my brayer to make a background for my main image. I did a lot of different layering ink images last month with my Simple Valentine set. This is another way to play with layering inks to create a background and image for your projects. I used the new pigment Spring Rain and brayered the top part of a piece of kraft cardstock to make a sky and the used the new pigment Spring Moss to make the ground part of the background. I let this background dry just a bit before moving on to the next steps.

Next, I stamped the tree image. I stamped the leave part of the tree in Ripe Avocado and the trunk part of the tree in Dark Chocolate.

If you look close you can see I added a little bird in Fresh Snow ink on one of the tree branches. Then, to add some texture to the ground area, I stamped a text background over the Spring Moss ink with Ripe avocado. I smudged the text a bit with my fingers to blend it in a bit.

Next, I stamped the sentiment under the tree in True Black and added some buttons & twine to the bottom of the image area.

For the inside of the card, I choose a sentiment from the With Sympathy set and then stamped the mini tree silhouette in Fresh Snow right underneath. Sometimes, it's so hard to know what to write in a card like this and these sentiments have just the right words.

Here are my completed cards, all set to go. Remember that the main image started out as just plain kraft cardstock. All it took was a few layers of ink and stamped images to create the focal point of this card.

There are lots more sneak peeks to see today! Nichole will be sharing more about the Through the Trees set on her blog today. Dawn and Alli will be sharing peeks of their new sets on their blogs and Kim will have peeks of her new templates coming out this month!

I will have more to share soon! Thanks for stopping by today!
