first fruits revisited

It's the 1st of November already. It's so true that the older you get the faster time moves. This year feels like it's flying by!

The Papertrey Ink senior design team has put together another challenge with a set from the Papertrey past, First Fruits. A decidedly autumnal set, it is perfect for your fall and Thanksgiving projects.

For my project, I focused on using the sets to make a background paper. I used the emboss resist technique on kraft paper to give it a rustic feel. Let me take you through the process that I did...

First, stamp your design in Versamark ink onto kraft cardstock. First Fruits is a set that make building images and backgrounds so easy. Find a main image to focus on, I chose the leaf design here, and then use other elements from the set to build around it.

Next I embossed the whole stamped image in clear embossing powder. To add color, I took the pad directly to my cardstock. I am using pigment ink for this project. Swipe the pad around to add color where you want it on your design.

Use a paper towel to wipe the excess ink from the embossed areas (the ink will resist where the embossing is, letting the kraft color show through) and blend the ink.

Add different colors and keep blending until you have a look that you like.

I even added a little white ink to my images to brighten and highlight parts of the image more. Next I assembled my cards using the embossed pieces for backgrounds.

To add a bit of shimmer to my project, I used Scor-tape to attach gold ribbon to the Ripe Avocado grosgrain ribbon.

And here are the finished cards. Fillable Frames #4 was perfect for the sentiment and a few other embellishments all embossed in clear. I went around all of the edges with the Tea Dye Duos to distress and add to the rustic feel of the cards.

I love the pine cone & branch images in the set and how they gave this card a woodsy feel.
