introducing military hero, military stars, and think big favorites #17

Welcome to day 2 of the Papertrey Ink June release countdown! Today I am sharing 3 new sets being released at this month: Military Stars & Military Hero by Melissa Bickford and Think Big Favorites #17. There's a peek of the larger frame from my new Framed Out #5 set on a project as well!

Military Stars is a great set of stars with a patriotic/military flair and Military Hero is a set of sentiments geared towards creating and sending cards to our military both active duty, veteran, retired, here in the states, or overseas. The sentiments are perfect for honoring and celebrating just about every occasion. Both sets retail for $24 each.

Think Big Favorites #17 continues the series of taking past Papertrey sentiments to a larger size and making them perfect for the focal point of a card/project.

All of the new stamp sets and projects that I am sharing today will be available to purchase on June 15th, 10PM ET, at Papertrey Ink.

I really got into creating backgrounds with the star images in the Military Stars set for all of my projects that I am sharing today. For this card, I chose 3 of the star designs and stamped a pattern on kraft cardstock using Enchanted Evening, Scarlet Jewel, and Fresh Snow ink.

I didn't want to cover up my background design too much, but wanted to add a sentiment from the Military Hero set and so I used some vellum cardstock. I pulled out the Wine Bottle Tag die because it was just the right width for the sentiment and I really liked the tail on the bottom of the tag and how it coordinated with the patriotic theme. I just trimmed off the top part of the tag for it to work on the card.

If you stamp on the vellum cardstock, make sure you let it dry completely - you can use a heat tool to speed up the process.

I like this circle emblem that is in the Military Stars set that you can set the star images into. For this card, I used the "thank you" star to coordinate with the sentiment that I stamped onto the vellum piece.

Military Stars and Military Hero are great sets for honoring loved ones who are and have served in the military. I created this scrapbook page of my Grandpa Larry, who we just lost this past November. The picture is on that I scanned when we were going through pictures for the funeral. The writing on the picture is my Grandma's.

The background on this project uses many of the star images from Military Stars, but I keep them neutral by stamping with Fine Linen ink on Fine Linen cardstock. Keeping the background neutral really helped the photo, journaling, and other star accents stand out on the page.

The stars in the Military Star set worked with a star punch that I have by Fiskars and they will also work with the Seeing Stars die collection. The circle emblem can be punched or die cut easily with a 1 3/4" circle.

This "welcome home" card is not limited to someone who is in the military. Changing the colors up like I did here makes the Military Stars set versatile for a non-military theme as well. I used the larger tag frame from Framed Out #5 with the "welcome home" sentiment that I used from Military Hero.

The circle emblem is stamped in Classic Kraft and the star image is stamped in Ocean Tides, Ripe Avocado, and Simply Chartreuse. If you look closely, you might be able to see that I stamped the map image from Road Trip over the whole background in Fine Linen ink. It is subtle, but adds a great texture to the card.

Putting the tag right onto the stamped background was too busy and so I added the kraft star to give the sentiment tag a "landing spot" on the card.

On this last card I created one last background design with the Military Stars set. I started with the center star and then stamped the stars around the center star and out from there.

Think Big Favorites #17 takes its sentiments from the Star Prints stamp set. I purposely stamped the center star in a lighter color, Spring Rain, so that I could stamp the sentiment over the top and know that it would stand out and not get lost in the background design.
