star gazer and wonderful words: memories

Welcome to day 5 of the Papertrey Ink April release countdown. Today is another group post day and the design team is sharing projects with the new Star Gazer and Star Gazer Additions sets. I also included my new Wonderful Words: Memories set in one of the projects I am sharing today too.

One of my very favorite things about camping is star gazing at night. I am by no means an expert, but I love the beauty of the night sky. I used an inked background technique to create my own night sky. To learn more about creating your own inked backgrounds, you can see my Make it Monday video tutorial I shared a few weeks ago here.

The colors I used for the inked backgrounds are: Royal Velvet, Enchanted Evening, and Hawaiian Shores and for the spattered effect I sprinkled some water over the background. The constellations and stars are stamped on he background with Picket Fence distress stain (by Ranger.)

The star chart is also stamped over the background with the Picket Fence distress stain. The sentiments are stamped in black ink and then I added stars die cut from the silver and night sky shimmer cardstock. I had run the cardstock through my Xyron (sticker) machine before I die cut the stars so that they would be easy to attach them to the card front.

How perfect is this background for the Star Gazer sets?

I have a few more projects created with these sets to share today...

I created a birthday card using the recipients zodiac sign - a very fun way to personalize a card for someone. I stamped and embossed the star sign and sentiment in clear and then painted with reinkers around the embossed images in Hawaiian Shores and Enchanted Evening.

I used the star chart to stamp a background on both the zodiac card and Ocean Tides cardstock.

I am in love with the new shimmer cardstock colors and used the Sea shimmer cardstock to stamp the star chart in Picket Fence distress stain.

The little star buttons are die cut from Silver shimmer paper and threaded on a silver thread - I also had run the cardstock through my Xyron sticker machine so that it would be so easy to attach them to the card front after they were strung onto the silver thread.

Here is another personalized zodiac card for a birthday. I stamped the Leo in Classic Kraft ink and then surrounded it with more zodiac images and stars for the background. I added Gold shimmer stars and some mini gold dot embellishments to bling up the constellation.

The "it's your day" sentiment is from the Big Ticket Basics set. It was perfect to add to the Zodiac sentiment for a birthday card.

Finally, I used the "memories" and the coordinating "cherished" word from my new Wonderful Words: Memories embossed in silver on the Night Sky shimmer cardstock. I added the moon & stars sentiment from Star Gazer which makes this a perfect card for a significant other.
