more wonderful words: joy & the new double bow die
September 11, 2013
Welcome to day 2 of the Papertrey Ink September release countdown. Today I have more to share with my new set Wonderful Words: Joy and I am also sharing a bit about the new Double Bow die.
All of the new stamp sets and products that I am sharing today will be available to purchase on September 15th, 10PM ET, at Papertrey Ink.
For the first project I am sharing today, I wanted to watercolor some cardstock to die cut from and thought I would share the process with you.
First I put some ink refills in Limeade Ice, Hawaiian Shores, and Ocean Tides onto a piece of acetate - you could use a paint palette of some sort as well. I used a water brush to paint the colors in a striped pattern onto white cardstock.
Next, for a bit of texture, I added some water splatters by spritzing water into the hand and then shaking it onto the painted cardstock. I used a heat tool to dry the watercolored cardstock out a bit before I die cut into it.
I die cut the "joy" word and several snowflakes from the watercolored cardstock...
And then arranged them onto my card front. To adhere them, I used a spray adhesive.
And here is my finished card. I so love the look of the watercolored die cuts - so pretty!
I have to say, I think this month's word (joy) is my favorite - so far anyways ;)
Next up is a card that includes the Double Bow die - I used the die without the ribbon tails and added just a strip to create the present on the card front. I made my own "wrapping paper" by stamping the "joy" word repeatedly in Scarlet Jewel and Pinefeather and then added some snowflakes stamped randomly from the Rustic Snowflakes set.
Here is a close up of the bow itself. I made it from a patterned paper included in the Holiday Flourishes & Swirls collection. I added the tied on "joy" with a bit of Rustic Jute button twine.
The bow is definitely very dimensional and if you plan on mailing it, make sure to package it well and pay the appropriate postage. I think I would personally plan to give a card like this in person.
And finally, one more card using Wonderful Words: Joy and the new Double Bow die...
I stamped the "joy" once in Classic Kraft and then repeatedly in Fine Linen above and below it. This time I die cut the bow from burlap. I had to do a little extra trimming after die cutting, but it wasn't too much. If you are worried about the bow fraying too much, you can always add a glue or Fray Check to the edges of the bow to seal them a bit.
I added some Layered Postmarks: Holiday die holly leaves that I die cut from Spring Moss cardstock and a Scarlet Jewel button to complete the holly look.
You can see more about Wonderful Words: Joy, the new Double Bow die and more over at Nichole's blog. Dawn will be sharing more about Boutique Borders: Christmas and Global Greetings: Christmas and Maile is sharing more about the new Holiday Cheer & Grand Ampersand sets. The stamp designers have been busy this month so stop by their blogs too: Erin, Lizzie, Dawn, Lexi, Melissa, and Maile.
Thank you so much for stopping by again. I will be back again tomorrow with more to share!
