introducing building blocks and monthly moments: slide frame
February 13, 2014
Welcome to another day of the Papertrey Ink's 7th anniversary and February release countdown! Today is another group post day and we are all sharing projects created with the new sets Building Block set.
if you are looking for the "building blocks" for today's challenge over at Nichole's blog, it is at the bottom of the post.
All of the new sets and products that I am sharing today will be available to purchase on February 15th, 10PM Eastern, at Papertrey Ink.
What a fun set Building Blocks is and I know it will be one that I will keep close at hand because adding little sentiment strips to the edges of my projects is something I already do frequently. I have 2 examples of how to use the set on cards that I did the same watercolor technique to, but just switched up how I used the cardstock a bit.
For this first card, I created the leave background with Dawn's new Leave it Be set. After inking the base image, I spritzed it with water so that when stamped, it produced a watercolor effect.
To add the sentiment, I stamped the blocks in Classic Kraft ink onto the stamped image and then the sentiments on top with True Black ink. If I had just stamped the sentiments, they would have gotten a bit lost in the busy background, but the Classic Kraft stamped strips help highlight the sentiment and helps it "pop" from the background. It looks a little like I stamped on washi tape, doesn't it?
For this card, I did the same water technique with the Leave it Be set, but on kraft cardstock instead of white.
It's a little bit harder to get a sentiment to stand out on a darker background like this, especially when you have a busy pattern and that's when the die cut blocks are perfect to use. I stamped the patterned blocks on to the strips and then the sentiment parts right on each strip.
I have one more project to share that I also used the Leave it Be set and this time paired with with my new Monthly Moments: Slide Frame.
I stamped a pair of leaves using the same watercolor technique as the 2 previous cards and then framed them with the Monthly Moments: Slide Frame die cut. If you look close, you can see that I did a little masking with the smaller leaf so that the veins in the leaf didn't overlap onto the bigger leaf so that it appears to be peek out from behind.
I stamped the frame in Fresh Snow ink onto kraft cardstock, the frame details in Smokey Shadow ink, and layered several frame die cuts to make it a bit more dimensional.
