life is beautiful & monthly moments: may
May 14, 2014
Welcome to day 5 of the Papertrey Ink May release countdown! Today is another group post day and we all have projects to share with you using the new Life is Beautiful set. I also have one last project to share with my Monthly Moments: May set.
All of the new stamp sets and products that I am sharing today will be available to purchase on May 15th, 10PM ET, at Papertrey Ink.
I think butterflies are such a perfect image to stamp with and you can use them for so many occasions. The butterflies in this set are so gorgeous and are wonderful stamped as is, but are perfect for different stamping techniques that make them just beautiful.
This first card is beautifully simple. I used the new Monthly Moments: Instant Photo 1 die cut from Rustic white cardstock and stamped the butterfly onto the frame opening piece in Berry Sorbet & then added the wing detail image in Aqua Mist. I added the "beautiful" sentiment over the butterfly image and did a little inking with Fine Linen ink around the edge of the piece.
I stamped the sentiment on the bottom portion of the Monthly Moments: Instant Photo 1 die and then set the image piece into it.
I love how just that subtle inking of Fine Linen makes that image area piece look like a completely different color of cardstock than the frame, even though they were cut from the same cardstock.
I used a 1/2" strip of the Aqua Mist patterned paper torn at each end at the top of the frame to attach it to the card base. An easy faux washi tape accent!
For this card, I kept many things the same, but stepped things up a notch using the cracked glass technique with a bit of a twist. I did a little more inking on the card base and frame edges and I love the warm rustic feel that it gives to the card.
If you have never done the cracked glass technique, you can watch this Make it Monday video tutorial or view this newsletter post - both that I put together on how to do the technique.
For this card, I did the cracking, added Classic Kraft ink into the cracked areas and then heated the image again to smooth out the embossing enamel on the image. The ink remains where the cracks where, but everything is nice and smooth.
I have one last quick project to share with my new Monthly Moments: May set...
I created a 4" x 6" journal card to use later this month for my Monthly Moments layout. The butterflies from the Life is Beautiful set coordinate so well with this month's collection I wanted to put them together.
Since I had my embossing enamel out from doing the cracked glass, I took a Life is Beautiful butterfly die cut from Tropical Teal cardstock and embossed several layers onto it. The result is very cool and looks like a store bought enamel butterfly embellishment.
I am looking forward to adding this to my album in the next few weeks!
