SAF 2014 - 1920's era
August 23, 2014
I am so excited to be a part of sharing some inspiration as we travel through time today for Papertrey Ink's Stamp-a-faire 2014...

Welcome to the 1920‘s - commonly referred to as the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz Age. The world was just coming out of of World War 1 and a huge economic boom was happening. Because of this boom, cities grew and people had more money to spend on things like ready-to-wear clothes, appliances, and luxuries like radios.
The 1920s was the beginning of a social shift and a “consumer society” was beginning with people being influenced in music, dance, and language. Women now had the right to vote and prohibition was in full swing. So many traditional notions of popular behavior were challenged during this time and the gap between the wealthy and poor widened.
The stereotypical “flapper” girl of the 1920s represented the rebelliousness of the era. They wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and went against the social norms. They were known for their recognizable style that was greatly influenced by French fashion and embraced all things modern. Jewelry and evening gowns had an Art Deco flair.
The photo below from that era is one that is special to me:
This is a photo of my Great Grandparents: Ray and Valerie Vondane's wedding day that was near the end of the 1920s/early 1930s. They were married in Duluth, MN and I love so much that my Great Grandma Valerie's dress, headpiece, and hairstyle are perfectly in line with the fashion trend of the time! I had to share :)
I was so inspired by the head pieces and jewelry of the 1920's that were literally crusted with rhinestones. The glitz and glam of these pieces inspired me to create unique rhinestone embellishments to use on projects.
Up first is a tutorial on Rhinestone Designs:
I am so excited to show you how to create your own rhinestone embellishment that was a popular must have accessory in the 1920's on jewelry, on clothing, and worn in the hair. Using a die I specially designed that is based off of a vintage 1920's jewelry piece, I will show you how easy it is to replicate the stunning rhinestone designs of the era. Gather your rhinestones, the more the merrier, to create some true Roaring 20's glitz and glamour.
Here are some stills of the project that I share in the video tutorial:
I know you have seen the rhinestone design embellishments in craft stores and this is a way to create your own unique design.
I love how it "floats" on the card front!
The challenge for the contest is to use the die in the Explore the 1920's kit (or another die of your choosing) to create an embellishment with clear cardstock and rhinestones and use it on a project.

Next up is a project with Sparkle & Shine:
Here's another way to put together a stunning rhinestone and glitter accessory using the die that I designed for the 1920's era. In this video I share more tips on using the die and I also have a few tips to share for how you can combine glitter and rhinestones together easily. You will love the technique and surely be inspired to use it again and again because the results are just beautiful!
Here are some still of the project that I share in the video tutorial:
Figuring out how to combine rhinestones and glitter was so much fun and the results are just stunning.
I am inspired to use this technique on future projects. All of the sparkle and shine will be perfect for the holiday season that is quickly approaching! Who knew that the 1920's could inspire ideas like this?
The challenge for the contest is to use the die in the Explore the 1920's kit (or another die of your choosing) to create an embellishment with cardstock, rhinestones, and glitter and use it on a project.
