christmas tags 2014

This time of year is so much hustle and bustle as we try to fit everything in. The shopping, the hand made gifts, the cookie baking, the Christmas events and get togethers, etc. We could make everything quick and easy with gift cards and emails, but there's a reason that we slow down and take time to create special holiday cards, tags, and scrapbooks. There's a reason why we take time to choose just the right gifts for our loved ones. I am sharing my personalized Christmas tags today and reflecting a bit on how important all of this is during this special time of year.

I colored up all of the images for the tags I am sharing today while spending time with some of my close friends. We stamped, chatted, and laughed together and I cherish the time that I spent with them. Another night, I joined some ladies at my church for a scrapbook night and I spent time die cutting out all of the colored images and doing a bit of planning of how I wanted my finished tags to look like.

I get asked the question all the time about how I have the time or why I take the time to create hand made tags, cards, and gifts for my loved ones. Everyone's life is definitely busy - especially this time of year. I have definitely given these questions a lot of thought.

I decided to die cut Pure Poppy tag bases with the Monthly Moments: Journal Card 6 die. I have a scrap basket next to my table and die cutting like this is a great way to use up those extra pieces.

What is the reason why I spend the time? Well, a big reason is I love to create. Spending time crafting away at my desk, digging through papers, sprinkling glitter... all of these things are things that make me happy.

For an accent on the tags, I pulled out my red glitter, white cardstock, and Scor-tape.

Letting our loved ones know how much we care about them is what this time of year is all about - and really what every part of the year should be all about. How I show my love is spending time like this creating something to give them. I want to show them that I care so much that I took the time to create something a little extra special.

I used two widths of Scor-tape (1/4" and 1/8") and adhered them in a striped pattern on a piece of white cardstock.

I want to acknowledge that they are a special part of my life and that I appreciate everything that they have done for me and my family. Sometimes, I am not so good at doing this and this time of year gives me a chance to express my gratitude.

After removing the paper backing from the Scor-tape, I poured red glitter over the cardstock. The result is this sparkly candy cane paper that will be perfect to embellish the tags with.

Hand made gifts also share a piece of me with them. It's a piece that they can take with them so that later on they can be reminded how much they mean to me.

Planning out the layout of the tag comes next and how to add the personalization. I settled on the Antique Alphabet set to stamp the names in True Black ink on each tag.

Of course, I know that sometimes gifts like this aren't appreciated for what they are. And sometimes that stops us from taking this time because we think that people with just toss the tags and cards and other gifts aside and they go out with the crumpled up wrapping paper.

After I finalized the tag layout, I started putting everything together assembly line style.

And that can hurt, knowing that we sometimes aren't appreciated when we took the time we did.

A pile of tags ready to go for the holidays? Nothing makes me more happy than this!

But our lives as paper crafters (and all crafting in general) is a process. And we wouldn't be creating and making if we didn't enjoy the process.  And I like to think that spending that time is also a gift to myself. Time to do that thing that I love while thinking about the people that I love.

Here's a look at the finished tags. I am using some red & white bakers twine to tie them onto packages once we have things wrapped.

So even when things aren't appreciated like we were hoping, the real gift has already been given.

I love creating these tags each year and after the holidays, I will take my girls tags and tuck them into scrapbooks with the pictures and memories from this year.

And so that's why when there is SO much going on this time of year, I decide to sit down in the middle of it all and create hand made things for the people that I love. And I am sure that so many of you out there can relate. And when people ask us how we make the time for all of this? It's about making it a priority becuase the people we love in our life need to be a top priority.

Merry Christmas to all of you. And know that while you are busy creating all of the cards, tags, and gifts for your loved ones that I am right there with you. And we are all the recipients of a pretty darn huge and beautiful gift during this busy holiday season.
