shaker heart embellishments
January 08, 2016
Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and there is nothing more fun than bright colored hearts with a little bit of sparkle and shine to share with your loved ones. I created some unique shaker elements using stitching dies, clear cardstock, and confetti that I then used on a card, transformed into a tag, and attached to a clip for a unique embellishment that you can use in your planner or on another project. You will love how easily these sparkly little embellishments come together!
If you have some stitching dies already in your collection, you are good to go to create fun embellishments like these. For this project I used a Limitless Layers Heart Stitches die. I used a cardstock die cut for my base (Raspberry Fizz) and a clear cardstock die cut to layer onto to create the pocket. A tip for die cutting clear cardstock is to put a scrap piece of cardstock between the clear cardstock and your die cut machine cutting plate so that the clear cardstock doesn't pick up the texture from your cutting plate.
I used embroidery floss to stitch around the stitched die cut shape.
Before you completely close up the shape with the stitching, add confetti into the pocket. You can get creative here with what you add: chunky glitters, sequins, small die cut shapes, and more all work great!
Once you have the desired amount of confetti in the pocket, then stitch it the rest of the way closed. Once you get going, these go together pretty quickly! Make up a bunch and then get ready to have fun adding them to your projects.
I added a shaker heart to this card and even made a mini heart shaker too. The mini heart is included in the Seasonal Stitching: Eggs die collection.
The sentiment hearts and the small die cut heart on the card are from the XOXO collection. A little bit of twine ties around the card front was the perfect finishing touch for this bright, fun, and sparkly Valentine card.
I took the rest of the shaker hearts that I made up and turned them into a cute little heart clip and tag. For the tag, I just put an eyelet right into the shaker heart. I used the XOXO set again here to add the stamped and die cut heart on the front of the tag. How fun will this tag be to tie up some flowers or around a box of chocolate?
The little heart clip is made by taking 2 of the confetti hearts and adhering them back to back with a paper clip sandwiched in between them. This clip could be attached so so many little gifts - or how cute to add into your planner to mark a page?
I am inspired to create more little shapes like these to add to my projects. How cute would little eggs be for Easter?
Thanks so much for stopping by today for a little bit of bright and sparkly Valentine inspiration!
