{The Green Dancer by Edgar Degas}

I hope that you have been having a great day at Stamp-A-Faire 2016 and have been inspired by the techniques and popular masterpieces that have been shared today at Papertrey Ink. Now there's going to be a whole lot more because everyone from the design team has chosen a master artist/masterpiece and created a project to share that is inspired from it.

I chose the painting "The Green Dancer" by Edgar Degas to use as my inspiration. Edgar Degas is famous for his classical paintings of modern life. Over half of his work depicts dancers and I am drawn to the fluffy texture and layers that he used to create the costumes and skirts that the dancers wore in his paintings, drawings, and prints. I was inspired by the layers and use of color for the card I created to share today that was inspired by the painting.

I really love how the colors just shine in the painting from a bit of a neutral background and it reminded me of some of the fun results I had experimenting with stamping color onto white ink that was stamped on a kraft cardstock base recently. I chose a flower to use as the "dancers" in the painting and really played with color layering. I stamped the solid base of the flowers in Fresh Snow ink and then after the ink was dry, I stamped with the solid flower in Aqua Mist over the top.

From there I stamped the sunburst lines in Hawaiian shores. The dots were stamped in Orange Zest and sort of mimic the little flowers on the edge of the dancers skirt. I stamped a few more dots in Cocoa Bean over the Orange Zest dots. The center of the flower is stamped with Cocoa Bean. The result all of that layering is pretty wonderful and the white ink underneath really pops the color out from the kraft cardstock background. I like how the white sort of shows the stamping through and adds a pretty highlight overall.

The little Orange Zest Flowers in the background mimic the orange dancers in the painting background. The painting also inspired my card layout over all and then diagonal direction on the images really adds a nice movement and energy to the design. Once I got the leaves stamped in the whole card really came to life and the layout was perfectly set up to stamp a sentiment in the lower right corner.

Make sure that you stop by Nichole's blog to link up to all of the design team members to see their masterpiece inspiration cards.
