I hope that you have been having a great day taking part in Papertrey Ink's Stamp-A-Faire 2016 event today. I am excited to share the pointillism technique with you to apply color to your projects. I was inspired by the works of Georges Seurat and many other artists that explored this technique in their works. I put together a Pointillism Pinterest board for some additional inspiration both from some of the great masters and also some great examples of pointillism used in paper crafting projects.
Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Let's explore that idea with stamping and use a polka dot stamp and other tools to apply color to stamped images in a dot form to color them in. Layering the colored dots together create wonderful blending opportunities that take your stamped images to a new level.
This is the project that I am sharing in the video tutorial...
I have a few tips to share with you for when you experiment and create with the pointillism technique:
- Start filling in an area with larger dots first and then use smaller dot size to fill in smaller areas and details.
- Stamp an inked tool or stamp more than once and take advantage of the color variations (generational stamping.)
- Start with lightest tones of color and then build on top of them with darker tones to create shading.
I would love to see your projects created with the pointillism technique. You will want to post your creations over at Nichole's blog and you can get all of the details on the contests and other exciting things happening today for Stamp-A-Faire 2016 at Papertrey Ink.
Thank you so much for joining me today. Have a great rest of your day taking part in SAF!
