papertrey ink January 2018 release - fiesta flag: birthday

IMG_8722

Welcome to day 1 of the Papertrey Ink January release countdown. Today I have projects to share that are created with the Fiesta Flag: Birthday collection and Stencil Basics: Diamonds stencils. You will also get a peek of my new Birthday Balloons set in a few of my projects.

All of the new stamp sets and products that I am sharing today will be available to purchase on January 15th, 10PM ET, at Papertrey Ink.

One of the things I thought of right away when I first saw the Fiesta Flag: Birthday collection is the flags that you see hung all over at Mexican celebrations. They usually look like they are cut from a tissue paper and so I dug into my gift wrap box to use some on this project!

I cut the Fiesta Flag: Birthday Flag die from several colors of tissue and then layered them up. I added some stitching at the top and bottom hold everything in place and then attached it to a Kraft cardstock card front. I only added adhesive behind elements that are on top of the tissue because the adhesive does show through the tissue paper.

I stamped and die cut the cake, candles, and banner to add to the tissue paper flag.

The "celebrate!" sentiment on the card is from my new Birthday Balloons stamp set (you will see more about this set during the release countdown!) I added a few wooden stars scattered across the card front to finish things off.

This next card includes the cake and candles from the Birthday Flag: Fiesta stamp set. You are going to love all the options for adding details to the cake and how versatile the cake design is to use with so many other birthday sets.

I used the new Stencil Basics: Diamonds stencils to add the background at the bottom of the card. I did a tone on tone look with Classic Kraft ink onto the Kraft cardstock. Adding the design just to the bottom of the card adds some weight and ground the focal images on this card.

The balloons in the background are stamped with my new Birthday Balloons stamp set. I stamped the balloon bases in Fresh Snow ink and added the patterns onto the balloons with Orange Zest, Hawaiian Shores, and Green Parakeet inks. The star border at the bottom of the card is cut from the new Bitty Big: Green Parakeet patterned paper.

Finally, I had a little fun with the Fiesta Flag: Birthday Flag die and turned it into a shaker card!

First, I stamped the cake, cake stand, and banner directly onto the flag die cut with Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Raspberry Fizz, and black inks.

I backed the center part of the flag with clear cardstock measuring 4 3/8" x 3 1/2". Next I added foam strips that I cut from the double sided adhesive foam to make a frame to hold the sequins and confetti that I added into the shaker. I put this all face down onto my workspace and added the piece of Hawaiian Shores cardstock to back and seal up the shaker card.

I took some of the star confetti that I used for the inside of the shaker card and added it to the candles on the cake for a fun detail. How fun will it be to give this card for a birthday celebration? You know it will bring a smile to the recipient's face for sure.
