taylored expressions - gel printing kit

Hey, everyone! There's a new craft kit at Taylored Expressions and I am excited to share it with you! The new Gel Printing Kit includes all of the tools that you need to create gel prints to use on your cards, tags, and more. I have a printmaking background and have done a bit of gel press printing in the past, so I was so excited to see that Taylored Expressions would be offering this kit! I hope you enjoy the projects that I created to share with you.

Here's more information about what's included in the Gel Printing Kit:

If you love the idea of printing your own patterns in a variety of colors and designs then you’re going to love what you can accomplish with our Gel Printing Kit! Gel press printing is a technique that uses a gel printing plate (a soft and sticky plate made out of a polymer material) and a medium, like acrylic paint or dye-based inks, to create artistic prints and patterns. Everything in this project kit was hand-selected by Gel Press expert Lydia Fiedler to get you started creating unique gel press backgrounds for your cards!

The Gel Printing Kit retails for $69 and includes:

  • One 5″ x 7″ Gel Press Plate
  • Five 4 oz tubes of acrylic paint (blue, magenta, yellow, pearl metallic white and titanium white)
  • 20 sheets of Gel Printing Paper (5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″)
  • One 4″ Soft Rubber Speedball Brayer
  • One 2 oz bottle of gel hand sanitizer (for removing paint residue from the plate)
  • A hinged Storage Tin (7 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ x 1″)

Once you complete your kit purchase, you will receive an email (separate from your order confirmation email) with a link to the exclusive class video on YouTube. Watch it as often as you like and learn some great gel press printing tips and tricks while discovering inspiration for more designs!

In addition to the Gel Printing Kit, we are offering a new background stamp, several new stencil designs, and packages of Gel Printing Paper! You can use the new stamp and stencils with your gel press or for other paper crafting projects.

The new Gel Printing Kit is available to purchase RIGHT NOW in the Taylored Expressions webstore!

One thing about the gel press that you should know is that the results are unpredictable and even if you try to follow the same exact steps as what I share, your results will probably be different. That is the beauty of gel press printing and the goal is to let go and have fun creating! I am constantly surprised and excited by all of the different results that I get.

I used the gel press and the new Wild Willow stencil to create the background on this Mini Slim card. The Wild Willow stencil was layered onto the press, I added blue and yellow paint, and used my brayer to spread the paint through the stencil. The brayer also mixed the colors to make the green that you see on the finished background. I took the stencil off the press, let the paint dry, added blue paint over the top with my brayer, and then pulled the print.

The background is cut out with a Stitched Mini Slim Stacklets die and added to a Toffee card base. I added the flower and leaf  from the Bouquet Whimsy stamp set along with a sentiment created with the Framed Script - Hello die and Mini Strips - Hello Summer stamp. A few Bits & Pieces - Clear Drip Drops finish off the card.

This next card features the new Honeycomb stencil paired with the Gel Printing Kit. I put the Honeycomb stencil on the gel press, added color with my brayer through the stencil (blue and magenta paint), took the stencil off the press, let the paint dry, added blue and yellow paint over the top with my brayer to create the green color, and pulled the print.

When you are printing with a gel press, a little bit of paint goes a long way. You don't want your paint to be thick and gloppy. A thin paint layer is the goal! If you have too much paint on your press, you can use a brayer to remove it. To remove the paint from the brayer, roll it onto a piece of scrap paper.

To finish the card, I cut out the background using a Stitched Rectangle Stacklets die. The 'wish' is created with the Cap it Off Alpha dies cut out from silver glitter cardstock and I added the sentiment strip underneath stamped with the Simple Strips - Birthday stamp. I added lots of glittery stars all around the sentiment that are cut out with the Starstruck dies.

Finally, for this last card, I used the gel press with a previously released stencil - Wavy Stripe! The print is actually several layers, stating with a print that I pulled using mostly blue paint on my gel press. Then I layered the Wavy Stripe stencil on the press, rolled blue and yellow paint over it to create the green color, removed the stencil, and layered the print over the first one. I repeated this step again, except I rotated the stencil 90 degrees to create the plaid pattern. Finally, I layered the Wild Willow stencil onto the press, added white paint to just a few parts of the stencil, removed the stencil, and pulled the final print.

I trimmed the print to A2 size for my card and added a Blue Raspberry A2 Thin Frame Cutting Plate die cut. The sentiment is cut out with the Signature Thanks die from Sugar Cube cardstock and layered onto the coordinating Signature Thanks Backer die cut out from vellum. The final touch is a few Bits & Pieces - White Rhinestones sprinkled down the card.

I wanted to share a sampling of a few of the other gel press prints that I created with the kit. It was so much fun to play and I can't wait to do more!
